It was great to see such a variety of people, not just "greenies". One of my most frequently asked questions was "why we choose to use metal instead of wood?". As I answered the question repetitively it began to evolve. I also noticed some resistance to the idea.My initial answer was to reduce wood use, partially because if you think about woods eventual removal it would only impact residential building, commercial buildings already use metal as its "Core" structure. the second , was in regards to quality control, If I need a 35 studs I order a 100 so how many times do these studs go back and forth between the lumber yard and jobsites ?? But the real answer was we were able to build an elaborate floor system with ten inch joists, no exposed beams, something we would not have been able to do with wood.
Thanks to Hope And Jim for all the wonderful things they have done for The Energy Efficcent "Green" Home movement.
I Have had no luck getting the folks at FIRELOGS.com from North Carolina to have any interest in my customer satisfaction. The unit we ordered came damaged inside the box. the FIRELOGS.COM people insist the damage is due to the delivery company but the card board box had no damage and the dent in the fireplace could not have happened with no damage to the box. this means they shipped a damaged unit . this was quite expensive. I will not use this company again. I suggest you do not either.
